Nine years of WordPress, the long way around

From a first login in 2016 to an agency, a degree, freelancing that never stopped, and a US-facing engineering role, here's how I got to building WordPress full time.

1. Where it started

   In November 2016, I opened WordPress for the first time, more out of curiosity than any real plan. That curiosity turned into a career almost immediately, and WordPress has been the constant in it ever since.

2. Grids Hub

   I spent the next stretch, close to four years, at Grids Hub, learning WordPress properly against real client work. I started a B.S. in Computer Science at SZABIST, Karachi alongside it in August 2018. That balance held until July 2020, when the pandemic closed offices and I resigned.

3. Freelancing, the best chapter

   I'd already taken on my first freelance clients that March, on the side, while still at Grids Hub. It turned into the best period of my life. Once I resigned that July, freelancing became the one constant that never stopped, through everything that came after.

4. AllShore

   In November 2021, alongside freelancing that kept running in parallel, I joined AllShore. For the next four years I worked directly with US clients as their main point of technical contact, owning projects end to end rather than just executing tickets. It's also where I earned my HubSpot CMS Developer certification, work that pushed me to build accessible, standards-compliant sites outside the WordPress ecosystem too.

5. A degree, and two cloud certifications

   Through all of this, I was finishing that Computer Science degree. In June 2022, my final year, I added two cloud certifications, Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals and the AWS Academy Cloud Foundations badge, and graduated that August with both behind me.

6. Full focus, today

   In November 2025, I resigned from AllShore to focus entirely on core WordPress and plugin development, the work I'd always cared about most. That's what I'm building now, plugins like Cron Pulse included, and it's where my full attention is.
